A brief note about Rich Internet Applications

What is a Rich Internet Application (RIA)? RIA's combine the sophisticated display and input capabilities of a "thick client" application running on your PC with easy access through a browser. Web browsers began as a way to display HTML - which was created as a markup language for documents. Hmmmm. . .not exactly the best way to create interactive applications like an airline reservation system or a media library, but the ease of deployment and use was unbeatable. Why should you care?
